Are the residents over-reacting?
Are students entitled to behave in this manner during rag week?
Should rag week be abolished?

In my opinion the rag week should not be abolished.
getting drunk and partying in college is a life experience and something that everyone should have a choice to experience.

I do not think the residence are over reacting because the students should be in a pub or away from houses so there is no trouble. They are meant to behave during rag and fresher’s week so there is no hassle and they do not want it band. Rag week should not be abolished because it has been running for years and some students should jus behave so it is not abolished.

I think the residents are defiantly over reacting in these colleges as they have the right to drink. I think they can have a rag week if they want to have one, its there choice. Although they should behave while having this rag week. I personaly think that rag week should not be abolished as its a bit of fun.

My opinion on this matter is mixed. The people that are complaining have a right to. No one in there right mind would like someone highly intoxicated outside there house causing trouble and what ever else they do do. I know a large number of people that live right next to a college in Dundalk and they have to put up with it every weekend. There should be a pacific place where they can party. Everyone goes a little crazy whilst in college but interfering with peoples home lifes and there personal space is not what has to be done. Rag week as its called should not be abolished, people going into college look forward to these kind of things from hearing stories off their friends. I personally think if they calmed down just a little there would be not as much giving out and none of this would be occuring. College is supposed to be fun but i think there taking it a bit to far.

I think that the residents are definitely over reacting as every year does it, the students know the danger that they are putting them selves into. Although, I do think that the students should have some sort of lecture. Yes, they are adults but people of all ages don't know the true danger of drugs, and what they can really do to you, not now at the time you consume them but years later you could develop something wrong with you.

No I don't think rag week should be abolished because college kids are just letting their hair down and relaxing after their exams. It is also a life experience for these college kids. The locals are over reacting these college kids are just looking to have fun not start trouble

in my opinion i believe that rag week should not be abolished. i think that college is about partying every night and getting drunk. you can't just cancel a tradition that college students have. its a bit of fun for one week every year. the people who are complaining should shut up and stay out of it because they probably did the exact same thing if they went to college, and i doubt they cared about the local residents when they were skuttered.

In my opinion I do not think that the residents are over re-acting because they are being left prisoners in their own homes by the students of these collages.Students should be allowed go out every so often to have fun but if they are disrupting other people and have bad behaviour well then they dont deserve to be allowed go out.

I think the students need to earn there freedom by behaving on nights out eg: drinking responsibly, having a good time with your friends and not disturbing anyone.

I think that everybody should just let them have their little moment for that week as its been a tradition for years.

I think that the residents of these colleges are over reacting as when they were all in first year they celebrated rag week. In my opinion they all have the right to drink and party for this hole week. The residents also have to remember that they did this when they were in first year in the college so they cant be hypocrites and give out to them for when they also did it.

Well it's not like it isn't happening everyday now. Why do the society only complain when it's am official Rag Day? If 3rd Level students drink every week anyway no matter what occasion!
It's their responsibility to do what they want.
Yes it does disturb the society in some ways but why does it only becomes a problem when people have a reason to complain.
Society of people in their 30's and 40's drink to and cause a bit of commotion but you don't see children complaining.
How are they different from you? Rights and Responsibilities are all the same. So if you’re complaining then you are a problem too.

Rag Week is a ''Tradition'' in Ireland many other countries have their own collage experiences which universities respect. Take a look at America, they have more wilder, crazier experiences than Ireland yet their country respects that ! We can not deny this experience from taking place as it is what makes collage FUN! Without this tradition collage would not be something worth looking forward to...It'll just be like going to school for another four years.

The city council should clean up the mess, as it is keeping people in a job.

I most definitely think that rag week should not be aloud. Residents are not over reacting. Students walking down the street drunk should not be aloud. Students are definitely not entitled to act in this manner. They are putting a bad image on the college. If they want to have a few drinks they should go to the pub with a couple of friend.Local residents always have the fear of drunk people walking around their property during rag week. In my opinion rag week should be abolished for these reasons.

In my own opinion the Rag Day should not be abolished as the society of people are only thinking about themselves and not even taking a minute to consider what is going to happen to the 3rd Level students if their rights are going to be taken from them.
There will be more trouble if it will abolished cause more complaints and further disagreement.

I think that its the rowdy students that should be punished not the tradition.
there should be more CCTV in the area so they can catch the people causing the trouble

I don't think the residents are over-reacting, The student should be mature enough to have respect and know themselves when they have had enough to drink. Some people just don't respect and invade in others home and abuse the local residents.

I also don't think anyone, no matter what age should behave like that.It is a disgrace.Teenagers are always complaining how elders give us a bad repetition.Well i think students give themselves a bad repetition,They should just cop on, if they can't handle drink, they obviously can't handle college.A local man on the radio said "this year has been the worst ever..." so maybe ther won't be any problems next year or the years after that.

I think rag week shouldn't be abolished I think the students should just watch how much they drink, have a bit of respect and then everything would be fine.

In my opinion the residents are entitled to over-react if students are causing a lot of trouble and interfering in their lives leaving them uncomfortable in their home place. ''In Cork, residents admitted they were being left prisoners in their own homes by the sick behavior of some students during college festivals''. The residents should not put up with this and live in misery just because students can't behave themselves. Students should know better to respect the residents and not to act so immature and disrespectful.

Students are definitely-not entitled to behave themselves this way because of the risk they put themselves and others in. Misbehaving on the bus can distract the bus driver and disturb other people. A lot of incidents had happened and students have to consider the danger they put themselves in being in that state of mind.

I think rag week shouldn't be abolished, but students have to show more respect. More actions like Gardai patrolling the streets should take place. Residents should not have to have the need to complain. Residents should be respected so that they would respect the students that are trying to have fun.

I don't think they should abolish it as it is a tradition and I'm sure the people that are complaining have done this when they were at college and they need to understand that the students are just having fun.I think that they need to stop complaining and I think student should continue to party until force is introduced.

I dont think that the residents are over reacting. People should be able to sleep and have relax time with their familie's or friend's. The 3rd year level students should focus more on their studies and not their fun time.
They shouldn't be entitled to behave like this, even if it is rag week. Just because it's a rag week it doesn't mean they can be drinking and have anti-social behaviour.
But I don't think that rag week should be abolished. Students should be having fun but not taking it too far. What they don't realise is that they are doing is they are making a bad name for them self's and the college.
