I thought Buddy was very good, it was sad and happy at the same time. his dad isn't a very good dad. In one part of the book he buys Buddy a point and offers him a cigarette. Buddys mam left at the beginning of the story because Buddy stole £5 for his school trip. Buddy has a very hard time at school aswell. He gets bullied for being poor and having a plastic bag as a school bag, even by the teacher for the kind of trousers he wears. Buddy has two friends Julius and Charmian. they are his best friends but really his only friends aswell. Julius and Charmien are very kind, generous, loving and caring people. there mam and dad are Jamacian. Buddy runs away in apart of the book because his dad was put in prison. I would totally recommend this book to someone wholikes a book that you don't know what is going to happen next. :)

I liked Buddy it was a good read and I want to read another book like this one because Buddy was an adventurous book with lots of twists and things that you wouldn't expect to happen for instance when Buddy ran away instead of running to his mam he ran of back home and took £83 out of his dads locker drawer and all his cloths and ran away , in my opinion I thought that he was going to die but eventually he had the cop on to come back home his mam was happy and delighted to see him however his dad had only the slightest spark of happiness that he was home but didn't want to show it. So I thought that this book was a good read and it was sad when his mam left but in the end after all the begging and fuss Buddy had said to her , she comes home reunited with him and his father. This book had mixed emotions because at the start it was sad in the middle it was adventurous and at the end it was happy so the book was good because it made you want to read on after every chapter. It was a really good enjoyable book I would rate it 10\10.

We have been reading buddy by Nigel Hinton. This book is about a boy named Buddy who's family life is broken his mum leaves home and his dad is a criminal. I really enjoyed this book and would read it again. I would recommend this book for people who like adventures and mischief.

This book also has a lot of emotions in it happy and sad. Buddy gets bullied in school because he is poor his classmates and teachers often make fun of him because he doesn't have a proper school bag and his jeans are to tight. I would love to read some more of Nigel Hinton's books in the near future and would definitely give it 10/10. I thinks this book is suitable for 12+.

The ending is fantastic and adventurous and I would definitely read this book again.

We have just finished reading Buddy. It is about a boy from a broken home where his mother leaves the house and his dad is a small time thief.
Buddy often gets bullied at school for being friends with the only two black kids in the class, his teacher often makes fun of him sometimes because Buddy doesn't have a proper school bag and because he is poor.
Buddy's two best friends are Julius and Charmian. Julius and Charmian look out for Buddy a lot and let him stay at their house whenever he needs.
I recommend this book to people who like very adventurous and exciting books. I would love to read more of Nigel Hinton's books, I give this book a 10/10.

My reply to the book "Buddy, by Nigel Hinton" was that it was definitely something different than my usual book. It had excitement but it also had sad moments in the book. It wasn't all that good, not that the book was bad. But the peoples storyline in the book, was pretty bad as in sad. I really did enjoy this book more than my usual book for sure. I would most likely recommend it to my mam, dad, Sister and my brother. They all like these kind of books that can even make you cringe at certain points. The storyline of his dad being a criminal is amazing. It's really realistic, more realistic than real life possibly. Buddy, in my opinion, does a lot of things I do the same way. Such as in the book, he is walking and promises himself a treat if he walks all the way to school without touching a crack, I do things like that all the time at home and it really doesn't work. Just like the book! If I was to read this book again, it would of course be great but of course it would not be as great reading it again without the excitement but it would of course be interesting just to really get to know the book. His dad is a very racist mean kind of guy. His mother is very nice but argues a lot with his dad. Buddy is bullied at school, by students, and teachers. I would not be able to live the life of Buddy but if I was to try I would sure try my best not to make mistakes like he did, like shoplifting and such as visiting the lonely house"56 Croxley Street" But it wasn't really lonely. Also in the book when his mother left it was pretty sad, I'm sure people could agree with me if you have read this book. It's sad for sure. It's exciting for sure, it's also awkward sometimes, like when his mother came to visit him he didn't know what to say so she left. It was a really sad moment there. I don't know how I would of replied to that but it could not of been a good reply anyway. His mother is a very nice, but annoying person who can be rude at times. Not always is she mean. In fact she is very nice at sometimes she buys Buddy a donut after she came back to say hello to him. But it was stale sadly, Buddy still eat the donut as he didn't want to upset his mother. They both done a nice thing. If I was to rate this book I would have to probably have to give it a 8 for being fantastic but also giving away the story while you read it. It will give you a lot of hints of what will happen next, but it's okay. I gave it an eight because not always when they give you the next part of the story. It's usually very good. It's like they're speaking to you to tell you if Buddy is going to be in a good or bad situation. Although it did do many mistakes in the book, I would still give it an 8/10 because it was magnificent and better than any other book I read so far. I will probably read a better book in the future, but so far this has been the best one.

I liked Buddy. I thought it was very good. There were loads of adventures. My favourite bit was one buddy ran away from home and slept at the bus shelter for the night. but the bit I didn't like the most it when buddys dad went to jail the book got really boring after that cause he was my favourite character. I thought her was the funniest even though he was a thief I still like his personality. I thought It was really sad when buddys mam left them because they were by themselves and it is usally her that cooked the food and cleaned the house and when she was gone the house was dirty and smelled of damp and buddy really only go toast and tea for his dinner .

buddy was in a very high class in school. he was in class 3e. His teacher was Mr.Normaton. he got bullied in school cause he was poor and his two best friend were black.

Julius and Charmian were his two best friend and they looked after buddy when his mam left they were there for him and one his dad went to jail there were Julius and Charmian mam let buddy stay for as long as they wanted to.

buddys dad never really told him what his job was and buddy wanted to find out cause he thought something was weird. ne day his dad told him a story about 56 Croxley street and he said that a man killed his wife the he killed himself in it and that buddy should never go near that house and buddy told Julius and charmian and they wanted to go find out what is was so they went and they seen someone called the beast and then charmian went and talked to the next door neighbor and she said everyday and 4 o clock he goes for a walk and that one day he strangled one of her cats.

in the end buddy found out his dad was a thief and his dad went to jail for 18 months and buddys mam came home.

It was a really good book. I wanna read something like it again.

Buddy was a good book to be honest there was a lot of adventure. it wasn't boring. the book a bit of everything it contained drama, mystery, adventure and it was a bit funny in some parts. I felt a bit sorry for buddy the way he got treated in school. buddy was a very good loyal person because buddy used to rob pens and pencils from the shop because he didn't have lot of money to buy some. buddy stopped shoplifting for a good while and never did it again because he knew it was wrong, but then buddies dad used to steal and got put in jail for 3 months. after buddy's dad got out of jail he didn't steal again. when buddy's mum left his dad started stealing again buddy asked his dad to stop because buddy had managed to his must be able to.
the book had some interesting character's they all had there own different personality for example buddy he was brave, adventurous, loyal and a good friend. then if you take Mr.King he was a sneaky sly horrible man.
overall the book was great would definitely recommend it to a friend

I thought the book Buddy was a good book, because i like the plot and the setting of the story. I thought it was quite sad the way that his mum leaves and his dad goes to jail. Buddy is very brave because if i was in his situation i wouldn't know how to cope.

Buddy's dad is not the best dad because he offered his son a cigarette and he bought his son (Buddy) an alcoholic drink. Buddy's dad didn't really make an effort to get a job at first, but then he started stealing jewellery and brought back a bit of money.

I felt sorry for buddy because his mother left but it was a bad idea when he tried to get his mother and father back together, but everything works out in the end.

my reply to the story Buddy by Nigel Hinton, is a very positive one. the is a bit sad though, with buddy's Mother leaving home and his father being a bit of a criminal, I like the story because it has a lot of heart in it. My most liked character is Julius, Buddy's best friend. He is a very entertaining character. My most liked part of the book was when buddy befriended the beast while looking for shelter after running away from home. Buddy's school life hasn't been any easier, He and his friends get bullied by all of the other students. Buddy is very broke in the story, he is so poor he can't even afford his own trousers unfortunately. I think the end of the story is a very fair one, it shows that you should never steal or you will have to face the consequences.

I thought Buddy was a good book. My favourite charecters are Buddy, Charmain and Julius. I liked the bit with 56 Croxley street. I didn't like that he was getting bullied and his friends were being called the black kids.I liked the ending and his mam comes home and his dad isn't a criminal any more. It was Ralph's dad that killed his mam and himself I felt sorry for Ralph because he has no parents only an uncle. Ralphs uncle worked with Buddys dad and they kept the stolen jewels in Ralphs house.

Buddy is a story about a young boy named buddy, he lives in a house with his dad Terry, his mammy left the house because she was sick of her husband robbing

He has two friends named Julius and Charmaine their teacher is very racist towards them because they are black
Mr. Normington is their teacher and he is a racist.
His dad Terry is a small time thief and is also a racist.

At school buddy has to deal with a lot of bullies, including his teacher, they make fun of him for being poor

At home he has a dad who is not very good, he done things such as got his child drunk offered him a cigarette

The story is about Buddy and his friends trying to solve a mystery about 56 Croxley street in the end they find out it was a safe house for his dad and some other criminals

Buddy is a very good story, the character's are good.
I would give it an 8/10

I though the book Buddy was very interesting and funny. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes reading. My favorite part of the book was when Buddy called the police to come to 56 Croxley street and when Buddy ran away from home. My least favorite part of the book was when Buddy's mam left him and his dad. I though Buddy's friends Charmian and Julius were very nice people. they were very loyal and kind to Buddy. His teacher Mr. Normigton was a very mean teacher and he was very racist. He always picked on Buddy because he didn't have the right trousers for school and he didn't have a proper bag. Buddy was in class 3E the top class. Buddy lived in a broken home and he used to steal from his mum and the shops, but he doesn't do it anymore. His dad Terry shop lifts and he is trying to stop, but he said it is very hard to stop. When Buddy was only 5 years old his dad was in prison.

I thought that Buddy was quite a sad book but I really enjoyed it. I liked it because the plot of the story was very good and I found it sad as his mum left at the start of the book as you'd find out from reading it. I felt sorry for Buddy as he seemed like quite a lonely child who just needed someone to be there for him and take care of him properly.

Not that his dad didn't take care of him but they didn't have a good relationship. I didn't really like Buddys dad throughout the story as he was a very lazy character and a thief who made his son do all the housework and bought his son alcohol and offered him a cigarette but Buddy said no. Buddy and his dad fought a lot aswell but in the end everythings okay between them as his mum comes home which I found quite happy about and his dad went to jail for 18 months as he was caught stealing.

The ending was definitely my favourite part of the book as they all lived happy ever after well sort of but everything is okay just that his dad has to go to jail for 18 months.

I also like this book as its easy to relate to and you could find yourself having lots of things in common with Buddy like the fact he gets bullied at school that happens to most people on a daily basis.

I love this book and would definitely read it again.

Buddy is a great book. Its full of adventure and mystery. The book is realistic not over the top. You can really relate to the characters. The book it filled with all kinds of emotions. The book is sad at times but still Buddy see's the best in people. I wish the ending would have given more about what happened in detail. You never really found out why his dad had to steal for Ralph, Or why Ralf wouldn't let his dad stop stealing. Ralf still kind of remains a mystery character he just seemed to disappear near the end.
Charmian and Julis played a big part in Buddy's life. They help him get trough tough times and always stayed by his side. They were so different but got along great.
Buddy is an excellent book that I'd read again.

Our whole class read Buddy as our class novel. It is written by Nigel Hinton. Buddy is a 13 year old boy that was calm, adventurous and cheeky. His father was a criminal which made him be really mean, full of himself and racist but he was nice if he wanted to be.
His mother was a really nice women and she was also really quiet. His mam left him and he had a much even harder time as his dad wouldn't help at home. This book is a adventurous and dramatic book at the same time. We found this book really interesting and emotional we would recommend this book to ages 12+. Buddys bestfriends where Julius and Charmian. They where actually the only friends he had. He had a hard time in school because the teachers and students bullied him for what he wore and about what bag he used. Buddy hated going to school for them reasons.
It wasn't his fault his dad didn't have a proper job he couldn't have done much about it. Our favorite part of the book was when Buddy and the Beast where talking to each other. We wouldn't mind reading this book again.

I liked Buddy so much . The book was very good it was mainly about buddy ,Julius ,Charmian and Buddy's parents .

Buddy gets up to all sorts of stuff like number 59 Croxley street , sleeping in the bus stop , evening group , on the back of his dads Harley and sopping with his dad.

Buddy was not like any of the others in 3E (the name of the class he was in in school ) cause buddy did not have his proper pants or he never paid the school trips , or because he did not have a brief case like the others . He got bullied a lot over this the main resson why he got bullied was because of his best friends the twins julies and chamian they were his best friends and buddy did not care what anyone thought about him have black people as best friends but the others in 3E bullied buddy over this .

Buddy's dad was a thief and his mum left home so buddy was always home alone until one day there was someone at the door buddy answered it and it was his mum he was trilled his dad went to jail buddys mam came home and they all live together

THE END

I liked the book Buddy. I thought it was really good the book was mainly about him and the twins (charmien and juiles) . The dad was a thief he kept stealing from shops and then selling them to get money. The parents were in it aswell also mr. king and ralph(the beast). They helped Buddy's dad (Terry) to steal from the shops .The mam left the house because of the dad stealing and Buddy also took £5 out of her purse.

At school Buddy got bullied and I thought that was very sad for him. cause the people who were bullying him wouldn't like if they got bullied. And I felt sorry for him because he was having trouble at home not just at school.

But he always had charmien and juiles . They would always aelp him out when he needed it . They were really nice friend well I thought so anyway. Buddy was a very adventurous person and a Buddy didn't care hat the people would say about his coloured friends . He liked them as his friends the Buddy's teacher was even a resist person.

Buddy's class is in E3 he gets bullied in that class even by the teacher as well . well about his friends the twins they are really nice people to Buddy . And to everybody else if there nice to them .

I really like the book Buddy its a great book I would read it again.

Buddy was a good book but I thought it was quite sad because his mam left him at the start of the book . I didn't really think it was fair the way buddy had to do all the work around the house while his lazy dad just lied down on the sofa listening to buddy holly. Buddy was an only child and normally people that has no brothers and sisters get everything that they want but it was the opposite with buddy he hardly got anything from his parents . I don't really think his dad was a good dad to buddy because he was giving his son beer at the age of 13 and he offered Buddy a cigarette but Buddy said no to it. I thought the ending was really sad because his mam only came home and his dad got 18 months in prison for stealing jewels .

The best bit of the book was probably when his mam came back to him and they spent time with each other . The saddest bit of the book was probably the ending because they were all back together then his dad had to go to prison . My favourite characters in the book were charmian and buddy .

I think Buddy was a very interesting and unpredictable book. The author includes his home life, school life, friends, his qualities, and adventures through out the story.

His mother leaves and I think his father is selfish and immature because he didn't take care of Buddy properly. I think the saddest moment was when his mother leaved because for so long Buddy thought it was because of him. During this time his two best friends Chairmen and Julius were there for them. They are two black kids who were often criticize about there skin .
This book is one of the best books I've very read I will definitely recommend someone to read Buddy

I think Buddy is a really good story. It is really interesting and exciting. the best bit in the book for me was when Buddy plans to catch Mr King but Mr King gets away and Buddy's dad is caught instead. I also liked the part when Buddy and his friends when to 56 Croxley Street, that part was very exciting. Julius and Charmain are Buddy's best friends. The stick up for Buddy and they help him when they are in need. Like when Buddy ran away he need somewhere to stay and Julius and Charmain let him stay over. In school Buddy gets bullied and so do Julius and Charmain because they are black. Buddy and his dad are thieves, well buddy is at the start but he gives it up and wants his dad to aswell but he doesn't, well that's until he goes to jail at the end!!! In the story Buddy doesn't wear the normal school trousers he wears jeans cause his mom left and his dad can wash, his teacher Mr Normington gives out to him about it but Buddy doesn't care cause its not his fault. Buddy also doesn't carry a proper bag to school like all the other boys he carries a plastic bag to school.

In the story Buddy and his friends always like going on Adventures and they like meeting new people. Like after the day his dad told him the scary story about 56 Croxley Street, that a man killed him wife and the hung himself Buddy told his friends. Then after they came back from school they went there a lot of scary stuff happened during their walk. When they got there they took turns to look and they all saw different stuff. I really liked it cause it got spooky and they found out that Buddy's dad was a criminal stealing stuff and that was pretty much it and also Buddy's dad loved Buddy Holly.

I think the story was interesting and well published I would recommend anyone .this story can give you a lot of feeling it can take you into a world adventure and lots more. this book is about a young boy named Buddy Clark he is thirteen years old who later in the story will be turning fourteen.

Who sometimes steals like when he steals from his mums purse when he doesn't get money for his school tour. this book is great and I enjoyed it.my favourite part of the book was when Buddy Charmian and Julius went into 56 Croxley street which inside the mail box each of them found different things like a hand a leg and a eye right then the story started getting more interesting . I also loved the part when I found out what the dad secret job was stealing jewels and selling them.

The first time I heard this story was when I was in high school. This was way back in the early 90's. I could not read way back then, due to my mother having Dyslexia and my father going through depression. Even though I never read it, it still had a huge impact on me. For years I have thought about this book, and how much I enjoyed it. I have now bought my own copy and am reading it to my own children at bedtime... one being the same age as I was the first time around. It hasn't failed to bring back all they amazing feelings it did the first time and my kids are glued to my every word and get very upset when I tell them that its bed time. The amazing part about this book is, its through the eyes of a teenager and is remarkable how accurate to how things were back then.

I like the book. I think it is a very sad and happy book because buddy's mum leaves at the beginning and his dad starts to get 'jobs' which leave buddy alone in the house. At school he is bullied for being poor and at home his dad tells him stories about 56 Croxley street and he and his friends Julius and Charmain go with him to the house to see if the stories are true. the old lady next door warns them about the beast. I would recommend this book to my dad and my brothers. I will rate the book 9/10
