Sarah's blog on our trip to Castlebar

Some of us girls from 39p went on a trip to Mayo with our English teacher Ms Cullen. It was a very long trip - six hours travelling in total! We arrived at the school at 5.45am. We were all like zombies. Most of us slept on the bus.

We got to St. Gerald’s College in Castlebar at 9am. We went straight to the gym to out up the big CoderDojo posters. After a little while, An Taoiseach Enda Kenny and Minister Ciaran Cannon arrived at the school. There were a lot of photographers there along with RTE news.

After the photos were taken, we made our way to the gym. We listened to the students play music. They were very talented. We listened to speeches from Mr. Kenny, Mr. Cannon, Ms. Cullen and Mr. Hyland. The atmosphere in the gym was electric.

We were then given a tour of the technology rooms. The students and teachers gave us demonstrations of how they are using coding in their class. Blathin was interviewed by RTE news and she was excellent!

A little while later we were treated to some yummy food in the staff room. We feasted on sandwiches and buns. Principal Hyland escorted us to our taxi at 12.30 and we set off on the road to Drogheda. We were very tired on the bus home! We had a great day. You can check out our pictures in the blog post below.

Teaching and Learning in the eSchool

Together with our teacher, Ms. Cullen, five of us are travelling to the 'Teaching and Learning in the eSchool' conference in the Slieve Russell Hotel on September 11th. We are very excited!

We will be representing our class and our school at this conference. There will be presentations and talks on ICT in education but the best part of the day will be .... US!   :)

That's right - we get to talk to everybody there about our class blog and our use of Class Dojo in the classroom. We will explain how we have used these tools to become more involved with our own learning in the classroom.

Keep an eye out for us and ask us as many questions as you want!

We decided to write a letter in response to a Sunday Independent article last week. The article called Roddy Doyle a rude man and we disagree with this. Enjoy!

Our blog post is related to 'A Greyhound of a Girl' because we imagined what the front page of the newspaper would have looked like the day after Tansey walked into the hospital and scared everyone.

This is our blog on A Greyhound Of A Girl. It is linked to the book because Emer and Tansey, Mary's grandmother and great grandmother, were born in the 20th Century. These scrolls are explaining what was happening at that time. We hope you enjoy our blog and learn something from it!
