To Kill a Mockingbird

20/9/2012

Yesterday, we read the first few pages of 'To Kill a Mockingbird'. I know we're not supposed to judge a book by its cover but we can judge from the first few pages whether or not we are able for the rest of it.

What do you, 29p, think? Is it a little too advanced? Maybe more suited to third year? Or are you well able for it? Leave your opinions in the comments below ...

Our Report on the TLE Conference

The morning of the conference was very exhausting, as I had to get up at 5.15am! We arrived at the school very early and we got tea and toast. This picture shows us on a tea break at the conference. We had been listening to people talk. They talked about using
tablets instead of books in school.

We made a poster to explain the technologies we use in class to other people. It was very helpful, as most of the answers to the questions we were asked were on the poster. People came over to us during the coffee break. They asked us questions about our blog and we did our best to answer them.

This is a picture of us eating our lunch in the restaurant. It was a very fancy restaurant. As we entered the room, we were blown away by the scenery. We had soup and a roast beef dinner. We didn't get time for dessert, as we were running late. Our teacher had
                                                      brought us sweets and goodies
                                                      though.

This is a picture of Mr. Heeney at the conference. He talked about using iPads and tablets in the class. He said that the basis for his work was student learning. He showed us a short video about how teenagers want to do more interactive work in the classroom. His speech was very inspirational and I hope that Mr. Halpin takes notice of it. I hope we can get this initiative in our school by next year. I found his speech very informative.

This is a picture of me (asleep!) on Dylan's shoulder. I am so cute. The conference was very long and I got a little tired. I had been up since 6.30am. Dylan looks very funny in this picture! We had a really good day.

We read a poem by Seamus Heaney today. It is a very poignant poem, as it is about the death of a four year old boy.

How did this poem make you feel?
Do you think that the poem is more poignant (sad) because it is based on real life events?

Teaching and Learning in the eSchool

Together with our teacher, Ms. Cullen, five of us are travelling to the 'Teaching and Learning in the eSchool' conference in the Slieve Russell Hotel on September 11th. We are very excited!

We will be representing our class and our school at this conference. There will be presentations and talks on ICT in education but the best part of the day will be .... US!   :)

That's right - we get to talk to everybody there about our class blog and our use of Class Dojo in the classroom. We will explain how we have used these tools to become more involved with our own learning in the classroom.

Keep an eye out for us and ask us as many questions as you want!
