Advice that we would give to incoming first years

This week, we have been writing our own blogs in English class. The students have been submitting their homework through this website, which means they have been getting their feedback a lot quicker, sometimes before the next class!

I think that I have quite a lot in common with first years. I have recently started in a new school. Having taught in a lot of schools and been around a lot of staff rooms, I have learned a thing or two: "You can't sit there! That's Mr. Kelly's chair!" or "I know you're new around here but I've always parked my car in front of the shed. Don't worry - you can move it at lunchtime" or "I'm sorry but you're going to have to finish your tea quickly, as you're drinking it from my cup". Here's my advice: bring your own cup; park in the spot furthest from the school; be the last man (or woman as the case may be) standing at lunch time!

So relax first years! You're not alone!

Luckily our class has made it through the first term relatively unscathed. I think incoming first years would benefit from their words of wisdom. First years: post at will!

Be nice to your teachers so then they will not give you bad notes and detention slips

You should always get to class before your teacher.
So you can settle down and be ready in your seat.
